Community Advisory Group

Background 

Building on years of community engagement efforts for the Islands, DOEE and the Friends of Kingman and Heritage Islands are seeking to reestablish the Kingman + Heritage Islands Community Advisory Group to support ongoing efforts to deliver the Islands’ conservation, environmental education, and recreation goals. 

The Community Advisory Group will convene on a quarterly basis, beginning June 2025.  Selected members will serve one-year terms (June 2025 – May 2026), with the ability to renew their commitment for up to three years. 

Goals

DOEE has outlined the following goals for convening the Community Advisory Group. These are expected to evolve based on the priorities of the members. 

  • Foster relationships with people and organizations that live, work, and play near the Islands and want to be a part of shaping their future. 

  • Inform both the new design contract for the Islands and projects outside of the contract’s scope. 

  • Gain a balanced understanding of community priorities, challenges, and opportunities. 

  • Foster champions of the collective work happening on the Islands and encourage outreach and engagement with the greater community. 

Eligible Groups

  • Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners

  • Representatives of neighborhood organizations and civic associations

  • Representatives of nonprofit organizations with active programming on the Islands

  • Active recreational users on the Islands

  • Wildlife experts or researchers

Timeline

  • The interest form is open now through Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 5:00 PM. 

  • DOEE will review applications and schedule short informational interviews with shortlisted candidates in May 2025. 

  • DOEE anticipates selecting approximately 15 people for the Community Advisory Group by May 30, 2025. 

  • The first quarterly meeting will be in June 2025. Details to be confirmed based on the availability of selected members.
