DIRECTIONS TO KINGMAN & HERITAGE ISLANDS

  • The Metro Station closest to the main park entrance is the Stadium-Armory Station. The park can also be accessed from the Minnesota Ave station.

    Stadium-Armory Station: Take the Blue or Orange line to the Stadium-Armory Station. Exit the station in the direction of RFK Stadium. Follow 19th St. NE north toward the stadium and continue on past the stadium to C St. NE. Turn right onto C St. and head east until 21st NE. Turn Left on 21st St. and cross to the sidewalk on the east side of the street. As 21st St. divides into Oklahoma you will find yourself walking along the east side of Oklahoma Avenue. Look for entrance to Kingman Island Boardwalk sign along sidewalk and then enter RFK Parking Lot 6. Once in RFK Parking Lot 6 continue straight back toward the Anacostia River, traveling under the Metro. The Main Entrance has large white sign, black gates, and a path leading back toward the Anacostia River. (Distance from Stadium-Armory Station is approximately 1.0 mile.)

    Minnesota Ave Station: Take the Orange Line to the Minnesota Avenue Station. Exit station to Minnesota Avenue. Turn right onto Minnesota Avenue and travel south to Benning Rd NE. Turn right onto sidewalk on south side of Benning Rd. Travel along Benning Rd. until you cross the Anacostia River. Once on the west side of the Anacostia River, the Pedestrian Entrance will be on your left through a gate in the large black fence. To continue on to the Main Entrance continue straight then turn left onto the Anacostia Riverwalk trail. Continue south on the trail approximately 0.1 miles. The park entrance trail will be on your left when you see the large white Kingman Island sign. (The distance from the Minnesota Avenue Metro Station to the park entrance is approximately 1.5 miles.)

  • Take the DC Streetcar to the Benning Rd and Oklahoma Ave NE stop. Using the pedestrian crosswalks, first cross Benning Rd NE (towards the gas station) and then cross over Oklahoma Ave NE. At this point pedestrians have two options:

    To access Benning Rd pedestrian entrance: Continue straight on the walking path that runs parallel to Benning Rd NE - after 0.4 mile the Benning Rd pedestrian entrance will be on your right, through a black metal gate.

    To access the Main Entrance: Continue straight on the walking path that runs parallel to Benning Rd NE. After 0.1 mile follow the path as it bends gently to the right (passing under the elevated Metro line) and merges with the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. Continue walking south, after 0.1 mile the main entrance will be on your left.

  • The closest bus stop to the main entrance of the park is located near the intersection of Benning Rd. NE and Oklahoma Ave. NE. This bus stop can be accessed via the X1, X2, and X3 buses.

    To access Benning Rd pedestrian entrance: Continue straight on the walking path that runs parallel to Benning Rd NE - after 0.4 mile the Benning Rd pedestrian entrance will be on your right, through a black metal gate.

    To access the Main Entrance: Continue straight on the walking path that runs parallel to Benning Rd NE. After 0.1 mile follow the path as it bends gently to the right (passing under the elevated Metro line) and merges with the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. Continue walking south, after 0.1 mile the main entrance will be on your left.

  • From Anacostia Riverwalk Trail: Travel south on Anacostia Riverwalk Trail from Benning Rd. approximately 0.1 miles. The park entrance trail will be on your left when you see the large white Kingman Island sign.

    There are bike racks once you pass through the rainbow painted iron fence. There are also bike racks on Heritage Island.

  • From Downtown: Travel east on Constitution Avenue NE to North Carolina Avenue NE. Turn onto North Carolina Avenue NE (slight right turn and then sharp left turn after crossing west bound lane) and continue heading east. Continue as North Carolina Avenue becomes C St. NE. Turn left on 21st St. NE heading north. Stay right on to Oklahoma Ave as 21st St. divides to become Oklahoma Avenue NE and 21st St. Look for Kingman Island Boardwalk sign to direct you into RFK Parking Lot 6.

    From MD: Travel south on DC-295. Take the exit toward Benning Rd (follow sign “To Benning Rd, Foote St, RFK Stadium”). Continue westbound on Benning Rd NE. Turn left onto Oklahoma Avenue NE. Turn at the first driveway on the left into RFK Parking Lot 6.

    From VA: Travel north on DC-295. Take exit for Benning Rd (note exit on left). Continue westbound on Benning Rd NE. Turn left onto Oklahoma Avenue NE. Turn left at first driveway into RFK Parking Lot 6.

    Parking: Once in RFK Parking Lot 6 continue straight back toward the Anacostia River, traveling under the elevated tracks of the Metro Orange Line. Look for our large white sign, black gates, and a path leading back toward the Anacostia River. You may park in the marked spots nearest to the gates.
