2021 KINGMAN ISLAND PROGRAM GUIDELINES FOR CORONAVIRUS - UPDATED MAY 2021

Living Classrooms is closely tracking updated Covid-19 guidance from the CDC and the DC Department of Health and remains committed to ensuring that all participants in our programs remain safe. Please read the following guidelines to know what to expect at Living Classrooms outdoor events.

Requirements for all Living Classrooms Volunteers and Program Participants:

Stay Home When Appropriate

All volunteers and participants are asked to take their temperature at home prior to arrival at the event. If your temperature is 100.4 degrees or greater, or if you have other COVID-19 symptoms, you must stay home. At its discretion, Living Classrooms staff may take your temperature using an infrared thermometer upon arrival and turn away anyone with a reading of 100.4 or greater.

If any of the following is true, you must stay home:

  • If you are sick.

  • If you have experienced symptoms of COVID-19 within the last 14 days.

  • If you have had any close contact with an individual who has a confirmed coronavirus diagnosis and/or who is presumed to have coronavirus.

Pre-registration and Waivers

Every volunteer event and program will have a limited number of participants and pre-registration will be required. Walk-up participants will not be allowed at volunteer or program events at this time.

All volunteers and program participants must sign a waiver release form. This form is mandatory for all persons. No person shall be allowed to participate in activities without full completion of the waiver with signature.

Group Limits

Events are limited to a size consistent with the current Mayor’s orders and the judgment of Living Classrooms to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. At this time, groups are limited to 20-50.

Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult guardian, and both are counted toward the group limit.

Masks

In groups that include children who have not been vaccinated, all participants must wear a mask upon arrival at the event and for the duration. Groups of fully vaccinated participants must bring a mask in case they are in contact with unvaccinated participants or the public, and may be asked by Living Classrooms staff to wear a mask. Masks are meant to protect other people in case the wearer is unknowingly infected but does not have symptoms.

Physical Distancing

All participants are encouraged to maintain a distance of greater than 3 feet from all other persons (participants and members of the public who are present) on the land and on the water, throughout the event.

Cleaning and Sanitizing of Hands and Equipment

Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment, when possible, such as water bottles and tools, and should not share these items with participants who are not in their household.

Living Classrooms staff will continue to clean and sanitize any equipment that will be used by participants prior to any event. Equipment should not be shared by participants unless they are in the same household.

All participants are encouraged to sanitize or wash their hands for at least twenty seconds before and at the end of a program. Hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol will be provided.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are available at the Fields at RFK, and they can be used at one’s own risk.

We strongly suggest that you use the restroom at home prior to the event, and we will schedule shorter programs to accommodate participants who want to use facilities at their home.

Program Cancellation

Decisions to cancel or terminate programs due to guidance from the Mayor’s Office or in response to immediate safety concerns will be made on a case-by-case basis and decided by Living Classrooms Foundation staff and communicated to all registered participants immediately.

Notification

If you become ill within one week of participating in an event please contact our office at kingmanisland@livingclassroomsdc.org to allow for contact tracing.
